SALVAZIONE
Salvazione Christian School is an independent school which is funded and supported by The Ridge, Auckland Park and St Katherine’s schools, plus other businesses and volunteers.
The school has been in existence since 1991 and was founded when a need arose to accommodate children from Slovo Park informal settlement and the surrounding areas. These children were unable to attend local schools due to dire financial or personal circumstances and a lack of available places at the surrounding schools.
Early lessons took place in a church hall until funds could be raised for a new building and today the school in Brixton is within walking distance for most of the children and its location, opposite a large municipal park, makes it ideal for the attending learners.
We read and do maths with 70 Grade 2 and 3 classes twice a week for 45 minute sessions. Around 60 volunteers, between the two days, give each child extra time and attention. The programme also receives huge support from all the teachers at this special school including the Principal.

Travel west down Empire Road
Turn Left into Menton Road. Travel up hill until lights at T-junction. Turn right into Annet Road. Turn left into Henley – this is the road that goes up to the SABC. Turn right into Ditton. Travel straight down Ditton, through some traffic lights and a circle. At the second circle opposite UJ keep left and travel up the hill. At the T-junction (traffic lights), turn right into High Street. Turn first left at the traffic lights at the Brixton police station into Mercury Road. First left again in St Cloud (you will be hugging the park). First left again into Jason. Up the hill and the school will be directly in front of you on the corner of Jason and St Albans Street.
Travelling on the M1 South, take the Smit Street Exit
Turn Right into Smit Street and follow this road for approximately 4 Km. This road becomes High Street and travels through Brixton main shopping street. Pass Pick and Pay and Absa on the left. Left into Jason. Follow the road and the school will be directly in front on the corner of Jason and St Albans Street.
